Balance & Functional Solutions For Patients
According to the National Parkinson’s Foundation, Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is the 2nd most common neurological disease. PD is characterized by tremor, stiffness of the limbs and trunk, slowness of movement and postural abnormalities. Within the general population, 2 in every 1000 people are diagnosed with PD. For the 65+ population, these numbers increase to 2 in every 100 people.
What can Balance and Neurological Therapy do for the Parkinson’s Patient ?
Balance Diagnostic and Therapy Center specializes in the treatment of patients with neurological disorders on an individual basis with a one-on-one custom program to meet the individual needs of each patient. Our sessions include one hour focused on gait, balance, strength, coordination as well as fall prevention in order to maximize patient potential. Advancements in recent technology, such as the deep brain stimulator (DBS), have allowed Physical Therapy to enhance a patient’s functional status. For those patients with or without the DBS, Physical Therapy is a good approach in regaining a patient’s prior level of function. We are conveniently located in Meyerland Plaza off 610 with easy access and free parking to our clinic.
BPPV, Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo, is the most common cause of dizziness related to the inner ear. Typically, it is triggered suddenly by certain head movements or positions, and results in an abnormal sensation of spinning, nausea or vomiting. The condition results from a mechanical problem within the inner ear/vestibular system. Small crystals of calcium carbonate (otoconia = “ear rocks”), a necessary part of our equilibrium sense, become detached and move freely in the semicircular canals, sending false signals to the brain about spatial movement. While it is most common following a trauma to the head, it can also follow an upper respiratory infection, or occur ideopathically with no known cause. For the person with BPPV, episodes of spinning vertigo, dizziness, lightheadedness, imbalance and nausea can be life-altering and disabling. Now there is a solution!
Balance Diagnostic and Therapy Center specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of BPPV. Utilizing the Video ENG to determine the vestibular condition of the inner ear, our team of certified vestibular therapists can quickly and easily perform proven therapy techniques to eliminate symptoms altogether. Many patients are totally symptom-free after 2 to 3 visits. Talk to your doctor and find out what Balance Diagnostic and Therapy Center can do for you.
